This is true in the same way you are "using" C++ if you are on Windows. When most people say "use XYZ language" they mean "are personally writing code in XYZ language" rather than "under the hood my code is transpiled to this other language I don't write in"
I don't understand why someone would opt for "write Typescript, but add a bunch of extra characters, make the syntax clunkier, and throw away all the benefits of compile-time errors because we'd rather have runtime errors" in order to save, what, a microsecond stripping typescript out of TS files?
Everyone's complaining about "the build step" but the build step is just an eye blink of stripping out some things that match a regex.

This is inaccurate on multiple counts. First of all, you can still run tsc with JSDoc if you want a hard error and you can still use strict mode with JSDoc. Your tsconfig file governs JSDoc-typed code just the same as it governs .ts-typed code. In both cases you can also ignore the red squigglies (the exact same red squigglies) and end up with runtime errors.
Nobody is advocating for reduced type safety or increased runtime errors.
I also think there are many valid reasons to loathe a build step (like not dealing with the headache that is the discrepency between the way the TS compiler deals with import paths vs js runtimes).
All that being said, I'm not really trying to convince anyone to stop using TypeScript. I'm simply pointing out that using JSDoc is using TypeScript. It's the same language service.
I take issue with this position because this seems to imply "PureScript and JavaScript are both JavaScript" is a true statement merely because one of them turns into the other with tooling.
TypeScript is indeed Javascript, all you have to do is remove the type annotations. They are not code.
TS does have some minor things like enums that need to be transformed and are actual code, but those are very few, and leftovers from early days of TS, and the TS authors regret having implemented them. For many years now the TS philosophy has been that the CODE part of TS is 100% ECMAscript, and only annotations, which are not code, are added.
The initial Babel transpiler for TS => JS, and still the most part of the current one, simply removes annotations.
It is recommended not to use the few parts that are actual code and not standard JS. They are certainly not needed any more since ES6.
People may get confused because the type syntax itself is almost like a programming language, with conditions and all. But none of that ends up as code, it's not used at runtime.
One of the IMHO worst design decisions of TS was to bundle type checking and transpiling into one tool. That caused sooo many misunderstandings and confusion.
I think the point here is that all the TS tooling works with JSDoc without any friction. As long as you don't look into the file, from the tooling perspective, a .ts file and a .js file with proper JSDoc annotations are practically the same.
Except the js files can work in the browser as is.. not the ts one (fortunately I might add, I find ts syntax very loaded at times)
Either one is superseding the other one, or they are simply distant cousins, but this is not interchangeable.
TS from JSDoc requires a generative pass to. This is a (expected) level of indirection. (unless some tooling does it automatically)

macOS doesn't require this. My Apple account has a handful of apps purchased over the years, and that's it. I could've bought them directly from the vendors, but the store makes it easier to update.
Technically true but I tried using a mac without creating an Apple ID and gave up. You can't access the store without it so you are locked out of Mac apps that aren't installed by default, and all apps that only distribute through the store now.
You don’t need the App Store to install most apps, and can just download .dmg or even .zip files with them; I feel like only a handful of developers go full-App Store-only (with good reason; it not only imposes extra restrictions on certain functionality but also takes a big cut of your sale).
I've used macbooks for 15 years and have never felt the need to create an Apple ID. Maybe I've just been lucky but I have never even encountered a piece of software that didn't offer a direct download or brew installation.
Perhaps that's not a loss, because why would you want to depend on apps that you essentially need an Apple account to use? I've had great luck with finding apps with Homebrew.

No, the opposite: it highlights the benefits of the flyweight pattern. The shallow copy saves memory. That's the point. You have two identical books. Rather than wasting memory with a deep copy, you make a shallow copy, where all your props point to locations in memory where values are located, and then you modify whatever is different. Now your shallow copy only consumes a small bit of extra memory.
And if those props are all primitives, then you can then modify that shallow copy, and it won't affect the original.
The point is to not make a copy at all for the shared data of the same book. That's even what the page claims is happening (but it's wrong). That's the whole point of the flyweight pattern[1]. Instead, the example returns the same book instance for the same isbn in `createBook`, then blindly copies the shared data like title, author, and isbn every time in `addBook` to a new object.

Versus not making a copy? A shallow copy of primitives still copies them and uses additional memory. Maybe there's some low-level optimization that makes it more efficient than that, but it's not relevant here. And there isn't any deep cloning happening in the example.
Might as well get rid of the complexity and instantiate a new Book class every time. And maybe stop shallow-copying class instances into new plain objects. It works for the example but has footguns.
Conveniently, there are other patterns on the site that would help you avoid creating an amalgamation of random merged class instances and objects.
Okasaki's is basically the Bible for this stuff. Anyone writing data structure libraries in a functional language will have read this or have it on their to-read list.
I have the book, but it also doesn't contain that many data structures. Some of the maybe most used (AVL tree?) are not in there.
Not all exercises have solutions. I get stuck on some exercise and have a hard time finding solutions to them, that I can compare with my implementations in Scheme. Not being a Haskell user (yet), I also have some issues translating Haskell to Scheme. In languages like Haskell one often controls flow by pattern matching on type. In Scheme one needs to make structures or records explicitly and use their predicates to explicitly check the type. It's all possible, but not exactly great for learning. Sort of the road has many sticks and stones to stumble.

Anyone who hasn't used Grok might be surprised to learn that it isn't shy about disagreeing with Elon on plenty of topics, political or otherwise. Any insinuation to the contrary seems to be pure marketing spin on his part.
Grok is often absurdly competent compared to other SOTA models, definitely not a tool I'd write off over its supposed political leanings. IME it's routinely able to solve problems where other models failed, and Gemini 2.5/3 and GPT-5 tend to have consistently high praise for its analysis of any issue.
That's as far as the base model/chatbot is concerned, at least. I'm less familiar with the X bot's work.
it's so wildly inconsistent you can't build on top of it with reliability. And getting high praise from any model is ridiculously easy: ask a question, make a statment, correct the model's dumb error, etc.
It's easy for us as humans to correct dumb mistakes made by AI. It's less easy for AI to correct mistakes made by AI.
What's remarkable on Grok's part is when it spends five minutes churning through a few thousand lines of code (not the whole codebase, just the relevant files) and correctly arrives at the correct root cause of a complex bug in one shot.
Grok as a model may or may not be uniquely amazing per se, but the service's eagerness to throw compute at problems that genuinely demand it is a superpower that makes at least makes it uniquely amazing in practice. By comparison, even Gemini 3 often returns lazy/shallow/wrong responses (and I say that as a regular user of Gemini).
Two things can be true at the same time. Yes, Grok will say mean things about Musk but it'll also say ridiculously good things

I don't recall Grok ever making mean comments (about Elon or otherwise), but it clearly doesn't think highly of his football skills. The chain of thought shows that it interpreted the question as a joke.
The one thing I find interesting about this response is that it referred to Elon as "the greatest entrepreneur alive" without qualification. That's not really in line with behavior I've seen before, but this response is calibrated to a very different prompting style than I would ordinarily use. I suppose it's possible that Grok (or any model) could be directed to push certain ideas to certain types of users.
Sure, but they also update the models, especially when things like this go viral. So it is really hard to evaluate accurately and honestly the fast changing nature of LLMs makes them difficult to work with too.
