Ancient version: Gauls send swarms of untrained levies to attack Roman legion.

"I'm mostly interested in the emotional fragility of parents and wanted to see what would happen if I pointed out that logic does not back up his reaction."

= trolling

xlnt isn't a troll. He just operates within a zone of disembodied rationality so robotic as to make Spock look like Oprah.

Can I have my DH rating now? :)

Heh. Someone else told me today that I use "a lot of very emotive language" like a "preacher".

The form of my post was to make correct, logical points. That is not trolling. The fact I had an honorable motivation -- learning -- does not suddenly make my posts worse.

Francis Bates became one of the first Silicon Valley entrepreneurs

More like he was an entrepreneur who, much earlier, happened to live in the region that became Silicon Valley.

Woz might be a better model for most hackers. What made Bill unusual was that in addition to being a fairly good hacker, he was really into business. But while someone who cares about both is a formidable force, I don't think "pay more attention to business" is the best recipe for most hackers. For most hackers a better recipe might be "build lots of great new things."

Most colleges would let you postpone finals after something like this, so you should be able to remove at least that cause of stress, if you want to. On the other hand, you may want to get them over with.

I recommend going somewhere far away for at least a week or so, to reboot your brain.

Ouch. I feel bad for Xconomy. They're going to be wishing they could pull this headline back.

Doesn't seem to say anywhere how much they invest. How are you supposed to know if you want to apply?

I would guess it is in the ~100k range, 5kn+ 5k wouldn't work in NYC.

PA has a bunch of early stage state funded seed funders, they are known for doing extraordinary amounts of due diligence.

Sees end to "blogging" would be more accurate.

What does he know now that he didn't know when he started Amazon? What would he now do differently?

But everyone asks this question, and the response is always the same. You can ask a question like this if you're getting a written response, but when you're asking someone to immediately think of things in person and then justify them on the spot, it doesn't work well.

Me too. Sixty pages of specs? That alone is enough to destroy them.
