In section 2.2.2 they expand on their reasoning. The claim is basically that unique identifiers stored in cookies ("_gads", "_ga" and "_gid") (they also mention more unique identifiers in the same context in section 2.4.2.3.2) together with information about the page that was visited, the visitors browser fingerprint and the generic IP address can be used to identify individual users.

You don't think that the use of that word in this context simply refers to humankind?

Are you talking about déjà vu?

My understanding of déjà vu is that it applies to the moment you're in aka "it feels like this has happened before". What I'm referring to is a sudden recollection of a moment, which isn't the current one. But the feeling is quite similar to déjà vu, just paired with imagery. I'm struck with a strong image in my mind, and a feeling that "that has happened before".

This sounds incredibly hyperbolic. Others have already mentioned that this likely is an inaccurate retelling of events based on how Swedish rent control actually works. Additionally though, tax records from the previous year is publicly accessible, your current income (or any raise you receive) is _not_.

I don't think three-strikes laws exist anywhere other than in the US to be honest.

noone else is as beholden to baseball metaphors as us.

There's even judges who love baseball so much they quote it in opinions lol.

when will the sport of baseball stop wreaking havoc on the justice system at last?

Whenever someone goes in a long baseball analogy to make a point, i start looking around the room uncomfortably.

But whether it's a repeat offense is taken into account by almost every criminal justice system. A first-time thief might get off with a light sentence by claiming that they needed money and made a stupid mistake. That's not going to fly when it happens for the third time.

New Zealand had one until last month, when it was repealed. Their ACT and National parties have said they will bring it back if they ever get a chance.

I don't know enough about New Zealand politics to know if those parties have a chance of actually doing so.

They're sleepwalking to a win in the next election, sadly[1].

[1] I say sadly, less because I like the current government, and more because they seem desperate to import Bannon-esque culture war nonsense like attacking women's rights.

According to this article, atleast Apple's VoiceOver seem to use the html5 tags to parse a webpage differently: https://dev.to/satyakresna/html-semantics-in-web-accessibili...

Hm, if you don't remember the problem causing the switch, how do you know it was the switch itself that improved the situation?

I wish no one would doubt children intuition about people and environment they are in ever again.

Naming the 'why' behind the emotions is a job for 12+ year old, not for the kindergartener.

The developing brain of a child may be experiencing the emotions associated with having a negative intuition, without having any of the negative stimulus that normally causes negative intuition about something.

An important part of the human developmental process is learning to calibrate these sorts of things, and one way to calibrate one's reactions is to have adults check whether the child's intuition about something was correct or not.

There can be some cases e.g. hidden abuse where the adult thinks the child may be being unreasonable where they are not, but in situations where the child and adult have equal information it's a valuable learning tool.

Most adults can't even do it reliably. The things we expect from kids that we don't even ask of ourselves....

Right, it might not even be the switch. My daughter used to scream her head off when being left in childcare. After 3 months she learned it was actually fun and looked forward to it.

HN has a downvote system as well. What you describe happens when a comment gets downvoted enough times, which makes it another good example of downvotes amplifying groupthink.

I kinda like that I only have upvote button currently here since I haven't hit the karma threshold. I do feel like the HN crowed doesn't downvote comments unless its spam or way out of the current topic. It happens but not like reddit where it acts like a disagree button.

People downvote for disagreement here all the time, it's a cultural norm.

It's important to note that there are discrepancies between countries in how the deaths are reported. Interesting read regarding unexplained increases in the number of deaths in some countries here: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/04/21/world/coronav...

The maximum number of invidivuals allowed in public gatherings has been lowered to 50, after being requested to do so by the Swedish public health agency.
