That smell thing is so real. I still get hit with it randomly and I'm immediately 10 years old again

Yeah that jumped out to me, when I read that line I could instantly remember the smell of my school’s computer lab, like a time warp in my brain. More than 20 years later I can picture the lab from high school perfectly, I could draw a little map right now of which computers were where.

I still remember getting that Pentium as a graduation present, and my room was suffused with the "new computer smell" for a day or two afterward. Ah, glorious.

Nice to see this getting the Jupyter Notebook treatment. The original book was already one of the better introductions to APL. Interactive examples make a huge difference for a language where half the learning curve is just building muscle memory with the symbols

APL workspaces substantially predate Jupyter notebooks!

Wild how fast this moved from "capped profit" to full profit conversion to IPO. Wonder what the final valuation lands at given how fast they're burning cash

This is actually scary. If Google can suspend a company like Railway without warning, what chance does a smaller startup have? The lack of any human escalation path at Google Cloud has been a known problem for years. You'd think enterprise customers paying real money would at least get a phone call before getting shut down

Then you should be scared about every single online account you use, since they all have this same capability of suspension of your account. That's inherent in any service policy.

Google seems to be the only one that actually does it, regularly, with no warning or comment, to other people. Google also spreads bans to accounts it deems related, so your personal Google account is likely to be deleted at the same time as your GCP account. That includes your Gmail address and your phone login and cloud storage.

And vice versa. Company accounts have been deleted because an employee's personal account tripped Google's random number generator. Again, only Google does this.

Does Google have any customer big enough for it to give a fuck about?

Anthropic, Shopify, Apple, Uber, Temu, Spotify, Ebay, Paypal are all massive users who get tons of engineering support.

Also if this rumor is true, they also get massive white glove engineering support: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/08/21/google-scores-six-year-meta-...
