So my understanding is that both chrome and firefox will eventually switch to manifest v3 and for the most part, this is probably a good thing. I understand that chrome also wants to remove the API that is used for ad blocking, which is bad. But apart from that, what is the migration path? Will there be a window when both browsers support both versions?

Last I heard Mozilla said the following:

Developer testing in Q4 2021 and v3 submissions early 2022.

So both browsers should support both v2 and v3 for a year.
