EDIT: I think coming from a humble background helps to proud oneself to be able to do everything yourself. I guess the line of having (modern) slaves vs employing someone is complicated and intermingled with the amount of payment. I imagine, especially the first assistant, after knowing that OP earns a magnitude more than 20/h, and then goes on a date and expects me to stay since I'm on payroll, is rather unsettling.
