My meeting rules are simple.

1. I don't go to a meeting that doesn't have an agenda.

2. After I get the agenda, I try and work out what I can over email and phone, if possible.

3. If I can't get out of the meeting following step two, I let the meeting organizer know I'm available for 45 minutes at the maximum.

4. I leave at 45 minutes regardless if the meeting is done or not.

These principles have served me well.
